INTERVIEW WITH PAZ FOURCARD – CO-OWNER AND PR NINJA FOR MILK & MADU AND WATERCRESS BALI; CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF LOVE CHILD BALI, PRO MAKEUP ARTIST, MODEL AND STYLE BLOGGER

As an aspiring career woman and mother, how do you maintain the balance between running your businesses and taking care of your family?
Having a schedule for me is very important. My days and weeks are planned way in advance and I set specific hours and days for certain businesses or jobs. I make it a point to turn my phone over at meal times especially with my family. When I’m on my own I still do it so I can have a moment of peace and quiet, if possible. I stop working everyday strictly at 5 and spend time with my kids and husband usually talking about our day, cooking together, watching movies etc.
If you could pick one place, anywhere in the world, to be your next destination, where would it be?
Paris. I always want to be inspired and make it a vacation where I can pick up creative energies to help bring my style ideas higher. I find French style fascinating and elegant. I want to visit the museums, look at art, and have more European culture to visually set my ideas aflame.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I hope all our cafes are set and running excellently. I see myself having opened a few stores in Australia and New York for Love Child and bringing my baby & women’s clothing brands abroad for stylish mammas to enjoy. I see myself settling back and traveling more. I want to give more tasks to my team and enjoy life more by having more time with my family.
Beside culinary, do you have any other business? Could you tell us a bit about it?
I have Love Child – a stylepad for bubs and fairy god mammas. I felt Bali needed a space for moms such as myself who want to find a balance of living in a tropical paradise but having the stylish necessities such as branded makeup, organic baby accessories and home decor evoking a tropical chic sense. It’s very hard to get proper makeup brands in Bali and as a makeup aficionado it was something important to me. Style and design are something I love and want to share with a market that would appreciate it.
Define yourself in one sentence
I’m a very strong and determined person. When I set my mind to something I always say it’s not if, but when.
What is the last picture that you took with your phone? Any story behind it?
The last photo I took was of the handmade lamps in our new restaurant Ulekan Bali. I love how people put their time and energy expressing devotion and love in their work. I think it’s like poetry but with movement. I want to celebrate it by telling the world about it.
If you could meet with one of the world’s international fashion icons, whom would you choose?
I would love to meet Tom Ford. I find he is a highly intelligent, has an outstanding work ethic but has a kind heart with great morals and direction. I admire him for his creativity and energy. You see it in his eyes when they take photos of him. He knows what he wants.
Name 3 fashion items you can’t start your day without
Makeup – I love to look good and start my day presentable.
A good outfit- even if it’s my favorite uniform of a black leotard with distressed denim shorts. The outfit sets the pace for your moves.
Good shoes-in my case, sandals or havaianas, they’re with me all day and comfort for me is everything when I’m running around with my kids.
Who has inspired you the most in life?
Single working mothers – I find I totally relate and understand women who want to love their families with all their heart and give them the best they can. Mothers and women who work hard know what I mean and it addresses a lot of issues with gender, opportunities, stigma and modern perception. I support mothers because they determine the fate of a society through the upbringing of their children.
If you could master one skill that you don’t have right now, what would it be?
I want to have a quadruple black belt in karate or learn proper Krav Maga. I want to be able to defend others and myself from any abuse or attack. I’ve always felt like a protector and I want to be prepared for anything
