How do you feel to be the new General Manager of Rumah Luwih
Challenged. That’s the first thing that came into my mind. Every new assignment came with new challenges. And these challenges obviously come from different aspects – uplifting service, increasing revenue/GOP, putting forward maintenance- to name a few. I personally want to make Rumah Luwih to be perceived as a holiday, culinary and jazz/musical destination too. This lush sophisticated heritage resort backed by warm and genuine hospitality is nothing but a stunning destination for all those.
Having been working in other hotels around Bali, tell us what is unique about Rumah Luwih?
The vibe. You have this beautiful oceanfront setting, lush manicured garden in which the garden is just impressively spacious and beautiful and that stunning view towards to the lines of hills and mount Agung is incomparable. The heritage design just adds another soothing vibe to the whole ambience of the resort. It’s not just another resort, it’s a special one.
In all of your experience working in hotels, what has been your greatest challenge and greatest success?
Whilst the secret to hotel success does not come down to one factor, it does rely on having effective management team behind the scenes pulling it all together. And being the leader of all different managers, emphasizing the ultimate goal and move towards that one direction efficiently will always be one of the greatest challenges for me.
It’s hard to determine what has been my greatest success but seeing all constituents work cohesively and getting great feedback from these 3 important elements: guests, staffs and owner had and always been my own personal success.
What’s the best part of your work?
Working in a beautiful site, it feels like work and leisure collides.
What do you do for fun during your day off?
It may sound cliché but I will always spend time and prioritize time with my family during my day off. Whether going out enjoying brunch somewhere or simply relaxing at home. As long as they are around me, I feel content. The fun part comes when you have this ‘humanized’ conversations with your grown-up kids just about everything in life.
How do you maintain a healthy work-life balance?
I try to have peaceful weekend, off from work and rejuvenate. It can be as simple as relaxing at home and talking to my family or getting updates about world’s trend from my grown-up children.
Do you like sticking to a routine? Or going with the flow?
I would say bit of both, routine is necessary and going with the flow is needed once a while. We always need to be flexible once a while, don’t we?
If you could go on a long holiday anywhere in the world, where would you go, and what would you do?
Anywhere my family would enjoy as much as I would enjoy it. I would just relax and enjoying the moment, as simple as that.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Continue pursuing what I love, remain being active somehow and leaving remarkable footsteps in hospitality industry.
