Interview with Melinda Martini Director of Sales & Marketing Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa

What do you enjoy most about what you do?
Working as a team. It is like driving a bus and has everybody in the right seats and going towards the same goal. Enjoy the journey together and have fun.

When youre at work, what puts a smile on your face?
When I think of all the silly things, I do at work, like falling down without any reason.

What is your favorite thing about your career?
When I see, my team grows and succeeds in their career.

What is the best compliment youve ever received?
When colleagues from other department in the hotel told me that we have the best S&M team in the hotel and there is only 1 S&M department in the hotel.

What are the most challenging issues you are facing on your current job?
Keep the teams spirit high when the hotel was facing delay of opening.

What are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
My biggest strength is to delegate to get things done and let other think so they can develop themselves. Is this a weakness at the same time?

Can you share tips for women who would like to follow the same career path?
Go beyond your external beauty; speak up, be brave in the mens world and never ever apologize for being a woman.

What do you do for fun during your day off?
Absolutely nothing.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Do you see me like a fortuneteller?
Being in Marriott, there is a huge career opportunity with now 30 brands. Here in Bali, we have 20 hotels and few opening soon in Indonesia. So I will still be in Marriott for sure.
