I am here at the Westin Resort & Spa Ubud, Bali to make sure all the guests feel relaxed during their stay, their well-being is lifted and inspire the people, the guests and associates, to be the best version of themselves.

Having worked at several luxury properties in the United Arab Emirates, why did you decide to work in Bali?

At the resort, there are also numerous dining options including the all-day dining venue Tabia, which offers international cuisine and local specialties set within an expansive indoor-and-outdoor space that features hand-painted murals by local artists. It also offers a selection of healthy dishes from Westin’s Eat Well menu including Tomato and Burrata Salad as well as Steamed Red Snapper. Tall Trees offers a splendid dining experience complemented with an unrivalled view of the river and tropical forest, highlighting flavors inspired by ancient recipes in which fresh ingredients are cooked in a wood-burning oven to seal in the natural flavors. Signature dishes include local Bebek Duck Pinza and Wood-fired Crispy Pork Belly. Tasty light bites, refreshing cocktails and drinks are available at The Lobby Bar that is set in a full bar concept with a smart design serving the crafted cocktail. Guests can also enjoy their favorite meal in the comfort of their room with the 24-hour In-Room Dining service.

Guests can relax and recharge at the resort’s Heavenly Spa by WestinTM, which offers signature treatments to recover from jet lag, as well as massages that are inspired by local mythology, such as Heavenly Ritual – a couple’s spa experience that draws inspiration from the mythical “Oleg Tamulilingan” Balinese dance traditionally performed by a male and female dancer who recreate the courtship of bees in a field of flowers. The treatment begins with a soothing footbath, followed by revitalizing massage and ends with a bath for two using essential floral oils. The relaxing spa facilities feature five treatment rooms as well as four outdoor spa pavilions overlooking the natural scenery, plus a jacuzzi and steam room. There is also an open-air pavilion with stunning views of the surrounding landscape for early-risers to partake in morning yoga and meditation classes.

Guests looking to stay fit while traveling can make use of the 24/7 Westin WORKOUT® fitness center that is complete with TRX and state-of-the-art fitness equipment. Westin’s gear lending program helps maintain guests’ workout routine without the hassle of packing running shoes and fitness clothing for a nominal fee. In addition to the running trail, yoga classes and gym, the resort also features an expansive infinity pool overlooking jungle foliage that’s suspended above the winding Wos River below. Kids can splash around the nearby children’s pool which features a miniature waterfall to blend in with the natural surroundings and is situated next to the Westin Family Kids Club where adventurous activities and guided, interactive programming await young guests.

What is the most challenging thing in your current position you have experienced so far?

I believe the most challenging thing has been to be consistent. With our team, we work together every day to prepare the guest arrivals, ensure we anticipate their needs and prepare the rooms based on their preferences. Once they arrive in The Westin, we consistently try to inspire them to be the best version of themselves. Doing this consistently every day, across all aspects of the Hotel is a great yet fulfilling challenge that we gladly accept.

You earned the 2018 General Manager Award for market share excellence while you were the General Manager for the pre- and post-opening of Aloft Dhahran. What do you think is the secret to your achievement?

I believe the secret was to build a strong and positive team that together had the same goals and ambitions. We were open to change, agile in our approach and positive in our execution. By doing so, we managed to stand out from the competitor hotels, which resulted in a positive reputation which again resulted in increasing our market share.

Describe yourself in three words.

Active, ambitious and positive

How do you maintain a work and life balance?

That’s not easy. I have a wonderful wife who comes from the same industry.  We meet while we were both working oversees and we always managed to combine both our careers, until recently. As she comes from the same industry, she is very understanding towards my work requirements and that really helps. We have 2 amazing daughters that love to travel and explore the world. They are both very kind and curious and we love spending time together.

Besides this I try to have an active lifestyle and run a few Marathons per year or participate in Iron Man racing. All in all not easy to combine all these aspects however it’s possible.

What do you do for fun during your day off?

When I am off I spend my full day with my daughters and my wife. We have so much to explore in Bali and simply try to discover a new piece of this amazing Island every weekend. We love to swim, bike or simply discover new places. We truly feel blessed to be living in such a wonderful place and enjoy every moment of it. Screenshot_2
